In short

In short: JetBrains is a Czech company that makes editors for programmers, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, and Rider, and has been standard in large teams for years. Their coding agent is called Junie.

Their tools are a familiar sight to any programmer. Heavy, detailed editors, each one built for its own language: IntelliJ IDEA for Java, PyCharm for Python, WebStorm for JavaScript, GoLand for Go, Rider for C#. Junie is the agent they added on top. It doesn't suggest a line of code, it takes on a task and finishes it.

Through 2026 they've moved in a clear direction. First they put agent abilities across their whole lineup. Then they announced a shared protocol for different agents to talk to each other. Then they shipped a local version of Junie, running right on the machine, with no outside server.
