Spotify puts a label on performers who do not exist

From mid-September, a profile with an AI-generated identity carries an AI Persona badge - on the banner, in search, next to every track. And by default, the algorithm recommends it to no one.

In mid-September a new badge appears on Spotify. It reads AI Persona and sits on the profile of a performer whose identity is generated: on the banner, in the bio, in search results, next to every track row.

Fact

The facts: on August 11 Spotify announced an AI Persona label for profiles with AI-generated identities, effective mid-September. By default such profiles are excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations; the exception is listeners who follow them deliberately. Labeling happens two ways: the performer self-discloses, or a Spotify team reviews photorealistic profiles. A labeled act gets a notice and a right to appeal. The label covers identity, not production.

The distinction is precise and worth a close look. A musician who uses AI in production carries no badge. The badge goes to the character: a voice, a face and a biography with no human behind them. What gets labeled is the identity lie, not the tool.

The stronger part is the quiet one. The platform does not ban AI characters. It tells them: exist, but I will not push you. The recommendation algorithm is the fuel of every streaming career, and by default it now runs on humans only.

The machine can sing. The badge says one thing only: do not pretend to be human.

Now I am watching the other platforms. The badge is cheap to copy and expensive to refuse. Whoever skips it has already picked a side.

The visual is generated code-art, no third-party images.
